The Opportunity

Join our academic team as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Accounting (Taxation), where you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of commerce education at UniSC. This is a future-focused role for an innovative educator and academic leader with expertise in accounting and taxation, Work Integrated Learning (WIL), and curriculum transformation. You will contribute to the design and delivery of contemporary, industry-aligned accounting programs that integrate emerging practices such as AI-enabled learning, authentic assessment, and digital technologies.

A key feature of this role is leadership of the UniSC Tax Clinic, where you will oversee student engagement in real-world taxation practice, ensuring high-quality learning experiences that benefit students, industry partners, and the community. You will build and sustain strong relationships with the ATO, professional bodies, industry partners, and community organisations to support impactful Work Integrated Learning opportunities, while also contributing to program leadership, curriculum renewal, accreditation processes, and strategic development within Accounting and Taxation.

You will:

  • deliver high-quality teaching in accounting and taxation, contributing to engaging, future-focused and industry-relevant learning experiences;
  • design, develop and continuously improve contemporary curricula, incorporating innovative approaches including AI-enabled learning and authentic assessment;
  • lead and contribute to Work Integrated Learning, including oversight of the UniSC Tax Clinic and related student placement activities; and
  • build and maintain strong industry, professional and community partnerships that enhance learning, research and graduate outcomes.

About you:

You are a passionate and forward-thinking educator with expertise in accounting and taxation and a commitment to delivering exceptional student learning experiences. You bring experience in designing and delivering engaging, inclusive and industry-connected curriculum that supports diverse learners and prepares graduates for contemporary professional practice. Enthusiastic about innovative pedagogy, you embrace technology-enhanced and AI-enabled learning, authentic assessment, and Work Integrated Learning opportunities to create engaging and future-focused educational experiences.

You are also skilled at building strong relationships with industry, government and community stakeholders to develop meaningful partnerships and applied learning opportunities for students. At Lecturer level, you will demonstrate emerging research capability, developing academic leadership and a commitment to ongoing professional growth. At Senior Lecturer level, you will bring a sustained record of teaching excellence, impactful scholarship and research, curriculum leadership, and demonstrated contributions to strategic and academic development within higher education.

You will possess:

Level B – Lecturer:

  • Completion, or near completion, of a doctoral qualification in Taxation, Accounting or a related field, or equivalent accreditation and standing;
  • Experience in Australian taxation through teaching, professional practice or industry engagement;
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging business and commerce curriculum, including Work Integrated Learning and authentic assessment;
  • Emerging evidence of research and/or scholarship through publications, collaborative projects or research activity;
  • Ability to contribute positively to academic administration, curriculum development and a collaborative academic environment; and
  • Engagement with relevant professional bodies, industry networks and ongoing academic development activities

Level C – Senior Lecturer:

  • Completion of a doctoral qualification in Taxation, Accounting or a related field, or equivalent accreditation and standing;
  • Demonstrated expertise in Australian taxation and leadership in learning and teaching within higher education;
  • Proven success in designing and leading innovative curriculum, Work Integrated Learning initiatives and industry-engaged learning experiences;
  • Sustained research and/or scholarship track record evidenced through quality publications, research impact and supervision of HDR candidates;
  • Demonstrated academic leadership in curriculum quality, accreditation, mentoring and continuous improvement initiatives; and
  • Established industry, professional and community engagement that enhances student outcomes, partnerships and research impact.

Desirable:

  • Professional accreditation as a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Registered Tax Agent;
  • Experience using accounting software such as Xero or MYOB;
  • Experience with AACSB International accreditation and Assurance of Learning processes;
  • Familiarity with AI, data analytics, and emerging technologies in accounting and taxation education; and
  • Fellowship of AdvanceHE or a postgraduate qualification in higher education.
