Each position will advise what the completed application parameters are for the role. You can commence your application any-time through the campaign by following the prompts under "Ready to apply". Begin by entering your details and selecting "Apply".

Depending on the position, you may be required to submit different documents along with your application. In some cases, a resume alone will suffice, while in others, you may need to provide supplementary documentation such as a response to selection criteria or a cover letter.

Please review the job advertisement carefully to determine the specific requirements.

For non-academic opportunities, ensure that your resume showcases your current and past employment information, responsibilities, and education within the last 7-10 years. Tailor your resume to the position description where possible.

If you're an academic applicant, highlight your achievements such as research, publications, teaching experience, speaking engagements, volunteer work, community involvement, board memberships, honors, awards, and professional associations.

The selection criteria listed within the position description outlines the qualifications, skills, knowledge, abilities, and personal qualities required for success in the position.

As a component of your application, please ensure to address each criterion individually, providing brief and focused responses.

You may find it helpful to use the STAR (Situation - Task – Action - Result) format to structure your responses where appropriate.

Within your cover letter or statement of suitability we encourage the following:

  1. Reference the specific requirements of the position description, highlighting how your experience, skills, and achievements align with the role.
  2. Use distinct examples of your work. Highlight any successful projects or initiatives relevant to the position.
  3. Demonstrate your understanding of the university's mission, values, and strategic priorities. Explain how you can contribute to our goals.
  4. Emphasise any leadership roles or collaborative work in academic, industry, or community settings that demonstrate your ability to work with diverse stakeholders.
  5. Keep your tone professional and engaging. Avoid unnecessary jargon and ensure your letter is clear, concise, and easy to read.
  6. Convey genuine interest in the position and excitement about contributing to the university’s success, showing passion for your discipline and higher education.
  7. Ensure your cover letter is free of errors, grammatically correct, and well-structured.

After submitting your application, you will receive an automated email acknowledgement.

The shortlisting process typically occurs within a week of the closing date. If you are shortlisted, we will invite you for an interview.

Should you require any specific accommodations or support to attend the interview, please inform us in advance.

Preparing for your interview is crucial and may increase your chances of success. Here are some suggestions:

  • Learn about UniSC’s history, offerings, and strategic direction through resources such as the strategic plan, rankings, sustainability, research, and diversity initiatives.
  • Prepare for questions related to the position’s responsibilities and selection criteria by reflecting on specific examples from your past experiences.
  • Come ready with thoughtful questions to ask the selection panel.
  • For face-to-face interviews, plan your travel and parking to ensure punctuality.
  • For virtual interviews, ensure a stable internet connection, clear audio, a functioning camera, and a distraction-free environment.
  • Be prepared to discuss your notice period, salary expectations, and referees.
  • UniSC typically appoints at the base of the salary scale, which is detailed in the UniSC Enterprise Agreement.

During the interview, make the most of the opportunity to showcase your qualifications and learn more about UniSC:

  • Be concise and truthful in your responses.
  • Actively listen to the questions and ask for clarification if needed.
  • Offer additional relevant information to support your application.

Pay attention to your body language and maintain a professional demeanor throughout the interview.

Reference checks may be conducted for preferred applicants to verify and supplement the information provided. These checks may be done virtually through our third-party provider, Xref, or over the phone by the Chair of the selection committee.

Please note that unverified written references will not be accepted.

The selection committee determine the alignment between the applicant to the selection criteria. The panel’s decision will consider the application, interview, reference reports and other selection measures where applicable, such as work based or psychometric assessments.

 

If you are selected for the position, a member of the selection panel will contact you by phone. This is a good opportunity to ensure you are confirming your salary expectations with the Chairperson, noting appointments at UniSC are generally made at the base of the salary scale. Our salaries can be accessed within our Enterprise Agreement.

Following, you will receive a written offer of employment which you will be able to review and accept online.

In the event that your application is not successful, you will receive email notification from our careers team.

In the event that you are interviewed and unfortunately have been unsuccessful in being appointed, you will receive communication on behalf of the chair of the selection panel.
