The Opportunity

As our Data Management Specialist, you’ll help shape how the University understands, manages and uses its data to make informed decisions and create meaningful impact. You’ll design and deliver initiatives that strengthen how data is governed, structured, shared and trusted, giving us clear visibility of what we hold, where it lives, who can access it, and how it can be used to support both strategic priorities and day-to-day operations. Working closely with colleagues and subject matter experts, you’ll uplift and embed strong foundations across data governance, quality, architecture and interoperability, helping to build a more connected, capable and responsible data environment across the University.

For more information, please visit us online: Insights and Analytics Unit

You will

  • guide and support initiatives that strengthen how the University manages, uses and protects its data, while building awareness and skills across the organisation;
  • deliver data management projects that unlock value, reduce risk, and support staff who rely on data every day; and
  • develop and implement practical, fit-for-purpose strategies, frameworks and practices that align with global standards and best practice, ensuring our data is responsible, trusted and impactful.

About you

Our ideal candidate is someone who sees the potential in data and knows how to turn it into insight, value and impact. You’re curious, collaborative, and confident in your expertise, able to guide and support projects that strengthen how we manage and use information across the University. You’re comfortable spotting emerging trends, exploring new technologies, and translating complex practices into practical solutions that make data accessible, trusted and meaningful. You enjoy engaging with colleagues, sharing your knowledge, and helping others lift their skills so that together we build smarter, more connected ways of working with data.

You will possess:

  • Strong applied knowledge and expertise in data management, with experience designing and implementing strategies, frameworks, policies and procedures in a large, complex organisation.
  • Experience navigating and managing compliance obligations in higher education or a similar context, including information management, public records, copyright, privacy, and related regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders, translate complex ideas into clear written and verbal messages, and build understanding across diverse teams.
  • Proven experience delivering projects and initiatives across multiple organisational areas, with strong planning, influencing, facilitation, and relationship-building skills.
