The Opportunity

In this role, you will collaborate closely with academic staff to assess and determine practical teaching requirements, ensuring that all necessary materials for on-campus instruction are effectively prepared. You will facilitate undergraduate teaching activities in both classroom and laboratory settings by providing expert technical knowledge and assistance.

Additionally, you will ensure that educational classes are fully resourced, equipped, and organised to support all teaching activities, thereby creating an optimal learning environment. You will contribute to the development and refinement of standard procedures, assisting in the implementation of innovative techniques while addressing related challenges.

Moreover, you will undertake safe working practices by conducting and documenting risk assessments, performing routine maintenance on equipment, and ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety (WH&S) regulations. Finally, you will maintain and monitor teaching classrooms, laboratories, and associated facilities, ensuring they are conducive to effective learning and teaching.

You will

  • provide technical support and expertise to a range of undergraduate laboratory and classroom-based teaching programs;
  • contribute to the safe working practices within the teaching laboratories and auxiliary facilities, including compliance with risk and waste management systems, and the routine maintenance and operation of equipment; and
  • manage the equipment booking systems, assessing equipment status, resources preparation and inventory management to ensure the teaching programs are equipped and operational.

About you

You possess strong interpersonal skills, enabling effective communication with diverse individuals while fostering a positive work environment. With excellent organisational and time management abilities, you proficiently manage a busy resource booking system amidst the dynamic demands of a client-focused academic setting. Additionally, your analytical and problem-solving skills are well-suited for supporting education and creative industries, allowing you to conduct quality checks on equipment and utilise various teaching-related software applications effectively.

You will possess:

  • Completion of a relevant Education degree or a combination of relevant experience and education/training may also be considered in a tertiary education environment.
  • Previous work experience in providing a broad range of technical support in teaching activities in the area of Education, including operation of educational teaching equipment and procedures in this discipline.
  • Working knowledge of and the ability to follow and comply with work instructions, policies, guidelines and legislation relevant to technical services including work health and safety requirements, practical experience with different laboratory waste streams, and risk management/assessment procedures.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills relevant to general education teaching support including the ability to conduct quality checks on equipment as well as use various software applications related to educational teaching.
  • A current class ‘C’ Drivers Licence and current First Aid certification.
