The School of Science, Technology, and Engineering (SSTE) is a leader in addressing global challenges through STEM education, equipping students with the skills to develop innovative, sustainable solutions. Our Engineering Discipline is a growing hub of research and teaching excellence, with strengths in sustainable building, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and more. Collaborating with the ARM-Hub and industry partners like Veolia and SMEC, we bridge academic and practical expertise. UniSC ranks above the national average for student experience, with 86% of our engineering graduates securing full-time employment (QILT Survey 2021). We are expanding programs, including new offerings at our Moreton Bay Campus, and exploring postgraduate qualifications to meet future needs.

The Opportunity

We seek a Senior Lecturer in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering to lead the development and delivery of our new Bachelor of Engineering Technology (BEngTech) program. This role includes program coordination, collaboration with Aviation Australia, and opportunities to contribute to our cutting-edge electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft project. With a focus on teaching and leadership, you’ll also have scope to pursue industry-relevant, externally funded research. Applicants with demonstrable links to the aircraft maintenance engineering industry, understanding/alignment with Industry 4.0 and whose experience aligns with the UN’s Sustainability Development Goals are encouraged to apply.

You will:

  • contribute to learning and teaching practices within the engineering discipline
  • undertake high-impact research;
  • play a part in successful research grant applications; and 
  • contribute to governance, coordination of and participation in the school capacity-building activities, and activities that contribute to the student experience.

About you:

Our ideal candidate will bring exceptional subject matter expertise, pedagogical proficiency, and a passion for innovative teaching in Engineering. They will excel in creating engaging, student-centred learning environments by employing effective instructional strategies and designing fair, relevant assessments that drive strong learning outcomes. With excellent communication skills and adaptability, they will respond to diverse student needs, embrace emerging educational trends, and foster a positive, disciplined atmosphere for learning. A commitment to continuous professional development is essential, including staying current through research, workshops, and conferences to ensure the highest standards of teaching and learning.

You will possess:

  • completion of an undergraduate qualification in an area relevant to aircraft maintenance engineering (for example: Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Aviation, Aeronautical Engineering). A postgraduate qualification would be an advantage. At least 5 years of relevant professional experience would be an advantage for all applicants but would be required for those holding only an undergraduate qualification. Holding an EASA- or CASA-recognised qualification as a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer would be an advantage;
  • experience undertaking academic administrative functions, e.g. course and program coordination, within a university or other higher-education institution;
  • evidence of research experience, including for example, refereed publications; participation in research teams; co-supervision of candidates for honours and higher degrees by research;
  • membership of and sound connections with relevant professional bodies and community groups and/or in professional practice; and
  • evidence of participation in academic development activities and the desire to continue to learn and improve as an effective academic.

Desirable

  • a postgraduate qualification in an area relevant to aircraft maintenance engineering.
  • hold an EASA- or CASA-recognised qualification as a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer.
  • at least 5 years of relevant industry experience (required for those holding only an undergraduate qualification).
