The Opportunity

UniSC is seeking expressions of interest from qualified lifeguards to join our vibrant and diverse community at UniSC Sunshine Coast, Sippy Downs.

As UniSC continues to grow, our Sport and Fitness team plays a vital role in managing world-class facilities and delivering outstanding experiences across health, fitness, and sport.
 
In this role, you will be part of a professional team dedicated to managing UniSC’s sport, aquatic, and fitness facilities. Your primary focus will be the supervision and safety of patrons in the pool areas, identifying and responding to potential risks, taking proactive action to minimise hazards, and ensuring all aquatic activities are delivered safely and to the highest standard.

You will
  • perform all lifeguard duties, maintain vigilant surveillance of the pool area and supervise swimming activities at the aquatics facility ensuring that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed;
  • warn swimmers of improper activities or danger and communicates pool regulations and water safety policies;
  • administer first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary;
  • evaluate conditions for safety and initiate aquatics emergency action plan as required;
  • inspect pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure that they are safe and usable;
  • supervise and assist in cleaning the pool and related facilities and equipment, assist with chlorine residual water tests and with records and charts of water tests and records of accidents, and add chemicals to pool water as directed; and
  • instruct or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.

To be successful you will possess 

  • completion of a certification in Pool Lifeguard or equivalent (must include CPR/AED, First Aid);
  • possess or be eligible to apply for a blue card;
  • ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness; and
  • demonstrated lifeguard skills and experience in accordance.
Please note, UniSC’s preference is for lifeguards to be 18 years of age or older; minimum age of 16.
