The Opportunity

Play a key role in supporting hands-on science education at UniSC! In this dynamic role, you'll work closely with academic staff to prepare and maintain teaching laboratories, ensuring they're fully equipped and ready for undergraduate practical classes. You’ll apply your technical expertise to set up experiments, manage resources, and contribute to the smooth delivery of laboratory-based learning. With a strong focus on safety and efficiency, you'll also assist in developing methods, solving technical challenges, and upholding WHS compliance across our science teaching facilities. This is your chance to be part of a team supporting the next generation of scientific minds.

You will

  • provide technical support and expertise to a range of undergraduate laboratory-based teaching programs in order to facilitate a quality practical experience and ensure students’ successful completion of all learning objectives and outcomes;
  • contribute to method development and problem solving of standard procedures, assisting in the development and implementation of new techniques within the teaching laboratories; and
  • contribute to the safe working practices within the teaching laboratories and auxiliary facilities, including compliance with risk and waste management systems, and the routine maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment.

About you

You’re someone who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, with strong interpersonal skills that help you communicate clearly and positively with a wide range of people. You’re highly organised and able to manage competing priorities, ensuring smooth operations in a busy, client-focused academic setting. You have a solid understanding of laboratory protocols and are confident in following policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. Your practical experience with lab waste streams, risk assessments, and WHS requirements ensures you maintain safe, compliant, and efficient lab environments.

You will possess:

  • Completion of a relevant degree or a combination of relevant experience and education/training may also be considered
  • Previous work experience in providing a broad range of technical support in teaching and/or research activities, including preparing reagents and solutions, operating standard laboratory equipment and conducting routine laboratory tests and procedures in a relevant discipline;
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills relevant to general teaching laboratory support including the ability to analyse results of experimental trail runs, conduct quality checks on methods and investigate experimental protocols that do not give the anticipated results; and
  • A current class ‘C’ Drivers Licence.
