The School of Science, Technology, and Engineering (SSTE) is a leader in addressing global challenges through STEM education, equipping students with the skills to develop innovative, sustainable solutions. Our Engineering Discipline is a growing hub of research and teaching excellence, with strengths in sustainable building, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and more. Collaborating with the ARM-Hub and industry partners like Veolia and SMEC, we bridge academic and practical expertise. UniSC ranks above the national average for student experience, with 86% of our engineering graduates securing full-time employment (QILT Survey 2021). We are expanding programs, including new offerings at our Moreton Bay Campus, and exploring postgraduate qualifications to meet future needs.

The Opportunity

The School of Science, Technology and Engineering is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering to help shape the future of engineering education and research at UniSC. You'll play a key role in the design and delivery of our new postgraduate and established undergraduate programs, while contributing to a collaborative academic community with strong connections to industry and government. This is a chance to grow your own research agenda in an environment that values sustainability, innovation, and real-world impact. We’re looking for someone who brings industry insight, a passion for teaching, and a commitment to research that aligns with global challenges and opportunities.

You will:

  • Deliver high-quality, engaging teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs;
  • Grow your research profile through projects, publications, grants, and research supervision;
  • Contribute to School and University life through governance, student-focused initiatives, and collaboration; and
  • Build meaningful connections with industry and community to enhance learning, research and impact.

As a Senior Lecturer (Level C), you will also

  • Provide academic leadership in teaching, curriculum development, and program coordination;
  • Lead impactful research with a strong track record in publications, funding, and supervision;
  • Shape the strategic direction of the School through leadership in governance and development; and
  • Drive industry and community engagement to create broader opportunities for students and research.

You will possess:

  • A doctoral qualification (or equivalent standing) in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Experience teaching in undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with a preference for expertise in areas such as advanced system design, energy or electromechanical systems.
  • A passion for creating engaging learning experiences, contributing to course design and assessment, and supporting student success across both face-to-face and online modes.
  • An emerging research profile, with potential to contribute to energy, advanced manufacturing or materials engineering through publications, collaborative projects, or research supervision.
  • A commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive academic culture where students and staff are supported to achieve their best.
  • Experience contributing to academic governance, program coordination or other collaborative university initiatives.
  • Professional memberships or connections that support student outcomes and strengthen links with industry or the community.
  • A willingness to keep learning and growing your practice as a teacher, researcher and academic leader.

As a Senior Lecturer (Level C), you will also

  • Bring a strong track record of teaching excellence, academic leadership and curriculum innovation in your discipline.
  • Have an established research profile with evidence of quality publications, research impact, funding success and research supervision.
  • Lead academic initiatives and contribute strategically to the development of your School and discipline.
  • Be recognised as a valued contributor to professional networks and academic communities, both in Australia and internationally.
