The Opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to play a leading role in shaping UniSC’s expanding Game Design portfolio within the Creative Industries discipline. You will help define and deliver an ambitious vision for the future of interactive media, where creativity meets technology through cutting-edge tools such as Unreal Engine, Unity, real-time rendering, AI, and immersive environments. Working collaboratively with colleagues across design, computing, business, and the arts, you will inspire students to develop both artistic depth and technical precision; building strong industry connections that lead to impactful creative outcomes.

You will contribute to developing future-ready curricula that equip students with the creative, technical, and conceptual skills to succeed across the fast-evolving landscape of game development, immersive storytelling, and interactive design. This position blends creative leadership, teaching excellence, industry engagement, and applied research, offering opportunities to shape innovative programs, mentor emerging talent, and strengthen UniSC’s profile as a hub for interactive media and digital creativity.

You will:

  • lead and inspire innovative, practice-based teaching in game design, 3D modelling, and interactive media, integrating cutting-edge technologies such as Unreal Engine, Unity, and AI to create immersive learning experiences;
  • develop and coordinate industry-relevant, future-focused curricula that prepare students for diverse careers in game design, immersive storytelling, and interactive environments;
  • contribute to research and creative practice through the production of scholarly and professional outputs, including games, exhibitions, and peer-reviewed publications.; and
  • build and sustain meaningful partnerships with industry, creative communities, and global networks to enhance learning opportunities, research collaborations, and graduate employability.

About you:

You are a creative academic or professional game designer who brings both artistic vision and technical mastery to your work. Passionate about teaching and innovation, you are committed to helping students thrive in the fast-changing world of digital creativity. Your practice demonstrates a strong understanding of environment and character design, asset creation, interactivity, and real-time workflows, and you are as comfortable coding as you are crafting visually compelling worlds. Collaborative and future-focused, you connect game design with broader fields such as AI, sustainability, business, and human-centred innovation, inspiring students to become confident, adaptive creators who make a meaningful impact in the creative industries and beyond.

You will possess:

  • A doctoral qualification (or equivalent professional standing) in game design, game art, creative technology, immersive media, or digital design;
  • Demonstrated expertise with industry-standard tools and workflows, including Unreal Engine and/or Unity, 3D modelling, and real-time production pipelines;
  • Proven professional experience or published credits within the games or interactive media industries, with evidence of industry-recognised outcomes;
  • Advanced digital fluency, including creative coding, human–computer interaction, and the use of AI-assisted or GPU-accelerated platforms for high-fidelity, immersive design;
  • A track record of innovative, learner-centred teaching that integrates technology, creativity, and inclusivity; and
  • Developing research or creative practice with tangible outputs—such as exhibitions, games, peer-reviewed work, or collaborative industry projects.

Desirable:

  • Fellowship of AdvanceHE or a postgraduate qualification in higher education;
  • Proven ability to collaborate with artists, developers, and studios across professional contexts, contributing to innovative, industry-standard creative outcomes; and
  • Research or creative expertise in advanced or interdisciplinary areas such as game studies, spatial computing, immersive environments (VR/AR/XR), or environmental storytelling.
