The Opportunity

Join our team at the Thompson Institute Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Clinic as a Clinical Research Nurse (Mental Health), where you’ll play a pivotal role in advancing mental health research. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you’ll provide exceptional clinical care to participants and manage data collection for concurrent research studies. Under the guidance of the Manager, Clinical Programs, you’ll ensure the highest ethical standards are upheld while contributing to innovative studies that make a real difference in mental health care.

You will

• contribute towards the Thompson Institute’s vision of being a centre for excellence in PTSD research integrating mental health and neurological research to prevent and/or successfully treat trauma related mental health conditions;
• take a leadership role in the clinical coordination and administration of mental health and neuro-science research by providing nursing and clinical research expertise as part of the research team conducting clinical trials at the PTSD Clinic in the National PTSD Research Centre; and
• provide information, support and encouragement to study participants and assist in undertaking physical and psychological assessments for a range of research projects.

You are a highly organised and resourceful professional with excellent troubleshooting skills, enabling you to prioritise conflicting demands and meet deadlines with ease. Your high-quality written and verbal communication, coupled with exceptional interpersonal skills, allows you to engage professionally with a diverse range of people. Whether working independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team, you thrive in collaborative environments and are committed to delivering outstanding results.

You will possess:

• Completion of a degree in nursing and current unrestricted nursing registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) combined with experience in working in a mental health setting;
• The ability to manage clients in an outpatient setting, exercise sound judgement, and make appropriate referrals in consultation with medical staff as required;
• High level computing skills including experience with databases, clinical trial electronic data entry, word processing and spreadsheets;
• Knowledge of ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and applicable regulations and a sound understanding of privacy principals governing health information; and
• Previous experience as a clinical trial coordinator and/or mental health nurse will be highly regarded.
