The Opportunity

The Careers Adviser is responsible for providing professional expertise and delivering equitable, high-quality career guidance services to prospective students, current students, and UniSC graduates. This role is instrumental in supporting positive educational and developmental outcomes, enhancing employability skills, and encouraging lifelong learning through one-on-one appointments, events, and resource development. A strong focus on collaboration, communication, and student-centered service is essential to enable individuals to make informed choices about their academic and professional futures.

You will

  • deliver one-on-one careers appointments to support students in decision-making related to program and course selection, skills development, and employment pathways;
  • develop and deliver workshops, events, and online resources that promote career development learning and employability;
  • build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and employers to support career opportunities and industry engagement for students and graduates;
  • collaborate with student groups, clubs, and societies to co-create relevant and diverse professional development initiatives; and
  • contribute to a respectful, inclusive, and positive workplace culture that supports wellbeing and success for all.

About you

You are a confident communicator and skilled careers practitioner, passionate about empowering students to make informed career decisions. Your interpersonal strengths enable you to build rapport across diverse student cohorts and work effectively within a collaborative team environment. You bring a solutions-focused mindset to challenges and thrive when helping others identify their strengths and aspirations. Your strong understanding of the higher education environment and career development principles positions you to make a meaningful impact on student and graduate success.

You will possess:

  • a relevant degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience providing career guidance (within a higher education environment would be advantageous);
  • demonstrated ability to apply Career Development Learning principles in individual guidance, resource development, and workshop delivery, in line with the Professional Standards for Australian Career Development Practitioners;
  • excellent communication skills and a strong understanding of the diverse experiences of students, with the ability to incorporate labour market insights into career conversations;
  • experience working within multidisciplinary teams using a case-managed approach to support student wellbeing and success;
  • a high level of administration skills with the ability to pick up and utilise new systems quickly and efficiently; and
  • eligibility for or progress towards a CICA-endorsed qualification or professional association membership (e.g. CDAA or NAGCAS).
