The Opportunity

As Senior Accountant for Clinical Trials at the University of the Sunshine Coast, you will lead the precise and timely reporting of operational finances within the Clinical Trials business unit. You'll proactively provide value-added financial and business services to both internal teams and external partners. Leading a dedicated team, you'll oversee daily financial operations, ensuring meticulous adherence to UniSC policies and procedures. Your role will be pivotal in driving business process enhancements and project implementations aimed at optimising financial workflows. Additionally, you'll play a key role in preparing and presenting annual Financial Statements, taxation reports, and investment strategies, all while upholding best practices and compliance with professional accounting standards. You will

  • lead Clinical Trials financial operations, overseeing accounts, reporting, and team success;
  • ensure strong financial management by upholding UniSC policies and guiding the team; and
  • collaborate on annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulations and standards.

About you

You're an experienced finance professional with a strong understanding of financial operations and reporting. You lead with confidence, ensuring efficient processes, accurate financial management, and compliance with relevant standards. With a focus on continuous improvement, you look for ways to enhance systems and streamline workflows. Your ability to provide clear advice and build strong working relationships makes you a valued partner to senior leaders and stakeholders. You will possess:

  • Strong knowledge of financial operations, systems, and compliance in a higher education environment, including legislation and taxation for statutory bodies.
  • Experience managing financial and accounting systems in a medium to large organisation, with a solid understanding of accounting standards, audit requirements, financial controls, taxation, and reporting.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement financial policies and processes, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills to drive improvements and efficiencies.
  • Extensive leadership and team management experience in financial services, particularly across Accounts Payable and Receivable, with a focus on reviewing and refining these functions.
  • Advanced computer literacy, including expertise in databases, TechnologyOne, SharePoint, Excel, and other Microsoft applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain financial processes clearly and prepare well-structured reports and materials.
  • A commitment to delivering high-quality client service, with strong relationship-building, negotiation, and influencing skills.
  • Strong organisational and decision-making abilities, with the capacity to manage competing priorities, work independently, and contribute effectively within a team.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the higher education sector and an understanding of industry trends that may impact university operations.
  • Familiarity with university enterprise systems.
