The Opportunity

Join us as our Senior Internal Audit Manager, a strategic and pivotal role driving excellence in governance, risk management, and internal controls at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC). In this senior leadership position, you will provide independent, expert assurance and advice across the University’s operations, playing a key role in safeguarding our assets, enhancing organisational effectiveness, and advancing our vision to create a better tomorrow.

You will work closely with the Director of Governance and Risk Management and the Audit and Risk Management Committee to develop and execute a robust Internal Audit Plan aligned with UniSC’s strategic goals and risk appetite. Your expertise in contemporary audit methodologies, risk frameworks, and stakeholder engagement will enable you to influence positive outcomes across our diverse academic and administrative environment. You will

  • lead the development, implementation, and successful delivery of the Internal Audit Plan, ensuring alignment with UniSC’s strategic objectives and providing senior leadership with high-level assurance on the internal control environment;
  • promote a culture of continuous improvement by embedding best practices in assurance, risk management, and internal controls to enhance operational efficiency and protect the University’s assets;
  • build and nurture strong, strategic relationships with senior leadership, the Audit and Risk Management Committee, co-sourced audit partners, and other key stakeholders to collaboratively address audit findings and influence risk and assurance strategies; and
  • deliver clear, concise, and insightful audit reports and presentations to inform decision-making at the highest levels.

About you

You are a strategic thinker and highly skilled internal audit professional with significant experience leading risk-based assurance activities in complex organisational environments. You thrive in senior leadership roles where robust governance and administrative processes underpin operational success.

You are proactive, independent, and resilient, adept at balancing competing priorities while driving initiatives that strengthen the University’s control environment and compliance frameworks. Your ability to engage stakeholders, influence positive change, and deliver practical solutions ensures continuous improvement and aligns risk management with organisational goals.

You will possess:

  • Extensive experience in conducting and managing internal audit reviews, including co-sourcing partnerships, within complex organisations;
  • Proven leadership capabilities in designing, managing, and delivering Internal Audit plans on time and within budget;
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage effectively with senior executives, committees, and diverse stakeholders;
  • Expertise in contemporary audit methodologies, risk management principles, and data analytics, supported by a relevant postgraduate qualification and/or professional certifications such as CIA, CISA, CA, or CPA;
  • A proactive, solution-oriented approach, with demonstrated ability to initiate and implement policies, practices, and frameworks that enhance audit effectiveness and organisational efficiency; and
  • Experience in higher education or a complex operational environment is highly desirable.
