The Opportunity

As the Senior Communications Officer, you will be responsible for leading all communication efforts on behalf of the Institute. This includes crafting and executing a dynamic communication strategy, managing and moderating the Institute’s digital and social media platforms, and creating compelling content for various channels. Your role will be pivotal in establishing the Institute as a global leader in forest research, driving its visibility, and securing additional grant funding to further amplify its research impact.

You will

  • manage the development and implementation of the Institute’s communication strategy and plan in support of the Institute and UniSC’s goals, programs, and key initiatives;
  • advise the Institute’s leadership team on initiatives to better communicate its research, member news, and engagement projects and initiatives;
  • develop and deliver content and support Institute initiatives to position the Institute as a preferred partner for industry, government agencies and other research organisations, as well as for future funding opportunities; and
  • manage and maintain the Institute’s various communication initiatives to a high-standard, while ensuring a cohesive and integrated approach to communication activities.

About you

You will demonstrate exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and prepare detailed communications. You will excel in negotiating and securing cooperation from a diverse range of clients and stakeholders, using data and analytics to drive decision-making. Additionally, you will have the capacity to work autonomously, manage tight deadlines, and determine work priorities effectively, all while contributing as a key member of a small team.

You will possess:

  • completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Strategic Communications, or Marketing, with subsequent relevant experience or an equivalent combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or expertise; 
  • demonstrated expertise in creating technical and research-related communication content for diverse target audiences;  
  • demonstrated experience in the preparation of social media content, and the capacity to manage and grow social media platforms;
  • demonstrated skills in graphic design, copy writing, photography, video and video editing and packaging for digital; 
  • experience in media liaison and writing to target media exposure; and 
  • Experience driving communications strategies in a multi-media environment.
