The Opportunity

Join the Academic Support Unit’s Technical Operations team and play a key role in delivering a critical chemical safety initiative across the University. You will contribute to the implementation of the Chemeritus chemical management system, supporting improved safety, compliance, and operational efficiency across laboratory and teaching environments.

Working under general direction, you’ll provide hands-on technical support, coordinate chemical data and systems processes, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure accurate chemical inventories, Safety Data Sheet (SDS) management, and safe storage practices. Your work will directly enhance chemical safety standards and support teaching and research activities across UniSC.

You will

  • deliver technical support for the implementation of the Chemeritus chemical management system, including stocktakes, data validation, and system testing;
  • ensure compliance with health and safety policies through risk assessment processes, chemical storage practices, and waste management procedures; and
  • support workforce capability and collaboration by coordinating training, liaising with stakeholders, and contributing to a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team environment.

About you

You are highly organised with strong attention to detail, able to manage complex data and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. You bring analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, particularly in chemical safety or laboratory contexts, and are confident working both independently and collaboratively.

You will possess:

  • Completion of a relevant degree (e.g. science, chemistry, or related discipline) or an equivalent combination of experience and education/training. Experience in chemical safety or laboratory environments is essential, with exposure to chemical management systems highly regarded;
  • Strong data management skills, including data entry, validation, reconciliation, and testing, with proficiency in systems and software applications;
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to engage and collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders and deliver training and guidance;
  • Sound knowledge of chemical safety practices, including risk assessments, GHS classifications, and relevant legislation; and
  • Demonstrated organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
