The Opportunity

UniSC’s Information Technology team is central to enabling the university’s growth, innovation and digital transformation. As a trusted partner to academic, research and operational areas, IT provides essential technology services, modern infrastructure and robust governance frameworks that support a dynamic, future-focused university.

Within this environment, the Project Management Office Lead plays a pivotal role in strengthening project delivery maturity and ensuring IT initiatives are well governed, strategically aligned and effectively executed. You will define and maintain the project management framework, oversee portfolio risk and performance, and foster a collaborative, skilled and engaged project management community. Working across all areas of UniSC, you will support project teams to deliver high-impact outcomes, build capability, and ensure strong alignment with organisational processes, standards and strategic direction.

You will

  • lead the operation and continuous improvement of the IT Project Management Office, ensuring consistent standards, governance and reporting across all IT projects;
  • oversee portfolio risk, quality assurance, financial performance and project compliance, providing expert guidance to project managers and stakeholders;
  • coach, mentor and uplift capability across project and business teams, fostering a positive, collaborative and high-performing project culture; and
  • support evidence-based decision-making through effective communication, stakeholder engagement and the development of business cases, project insights and governance advice.

About you

You’re an experienced project and portfolio leader who thrives in complex environments and is committed to driving excellence in project management practice. With strong technical knowledge, sound judgement and a collaborative mindset, you bring clarity to project governance, motivate teams, and ensure projects deliver meaningful organisational outcomes. You communicate with confidence, build trusted relationships at all levels, and enjoy supporting others to succeed through coaching and capability uplift. Adaptable and proactive, you’re ready to shape a mature, consistent and future-focused PMO culture at UniSC.

You will possess:

  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and management expertise;
  • Demonstrated experience leading project or program delivery, with advanced knowledge of project management frameworks and toolsets (e.g., ServiceNow PPM);
  • Strong understanding of project governance, change management, financial management, procurement and portfolio reporting within complex service organisations;
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, manage competing priorities and foster team cohesion;
  • Advanced analytical and business acumen skills, with the ability to evaluate options, develop evidence-based recommendations and improve business processes; and
  • Knowledge of IT policy, compliance, cyber security and risk management frameworks, and the ability to operate effectively within them.
