The Opportunity

Join the Let’s Yarn About Sleep program at the Thompson Institute and contribute to cutting-edge research focused on the sleep health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. In this role, you’ll expand your expertise, grow your research profile, and help elevate the Institute’s national recognition in First Nations health research. You will also play a key role in managing service and engagement activities efficiently, contributing to the Institute’s mission to improve health outcomes and community wellbeing.

You will

  • contribute towards the Let’s Yarn About Sleep Program’s vision of achieving sleep-health equity for First Nations Australians by delivering culturally responsive sleep-health programs and services that are community-led, grounded in First Nations perspectives;
  • assume a leadership role in the coordination and administration of sleep health and sleep health research by providing nursing research expertise as part of the research team; and
  • provide information, support and encouragement to staff and study participants and assist in undertaking sleep health assessments for a range of research projects.

About you

You are a motivated and skilled health professional with experience in client-focused care and research support. You confidently manage clients, exercise sound judgement, and make appropriate referrals when required. Highly organised and proactive, you can prioritise competing demands, meet deadlines, and resolve challenges efficiently. With excellent communication and interpersonal skills, you collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams and engage professionally with a wide range of stakeholders. You are comfortable using digital tools for data management, reporting, and research administration, and prior experience in clinical research is highly valued.

You will possess:

  • Completion of a degree in nursing and current unrestricted nursing registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) combined with significant experience in working in a sleep health setting;
  • The ability to manage sleep health clients in a research setting, exercise sound judgement, and make appropriate referrals as required;
  • Well-developed organisational and troubleshooting skills as well as the demonstrated ability to prioritise conflicting demands and meet deadlines;
  • High quality written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate professional interaction with a broad range of people;
  • High level computing skills including experience with databases, clinical trial electronic data entry, word processing and spreadsheets;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team; and
  • Prior experience in clinical research would be desirable but is not essential.
