The Opportunity

Join our team, where you'll play a key role in delivering high-quality teaching and learning experiences in our Midwifery Programs. You'll drive exceptional graduate outcomes, lead curriculum delivery, and may also support the professional work-integrated learning portfolio, helping to shape the future of midwifery education.

You will:

  • contribute to learning and teaching practices within the midwifery discipline;;
  • supervise honours students and HDR candidates; 
  • conduct “practitioner research” into learning and teaching and communicating the outcomes of that research;
  • proactively contribute to successful grant applications, particularly external competitive grants; and 
  • contribute to governance, coordination of and participation in the school capacity-building activities, and activities that contribute to the student experience.

About you:

Our ideal candidate will have strong midwifery subject matter expertise and a foundation in pedagogical principles. You will possess excellent communication skills and a passion for teaching and learning, with a student-centered approach that emphasises innovative and engaging methods. You’ll be skilled in implementing effective instructional strategies that enhance student learning outcomes while creating a supportive learning environment that fosters discipline and positivity. Additionally, you will design fair and relevant assessments to evaluate student progress and identify areas for improvement. With adaptability and flexibility, you will respond to diverse learning needs and adjust your teaching methods based on student feedback and emerging educational trends. You are committed to continuous professional development, actively seeking opportunities to expand your knowledge through workshops, conferences, and research to remain current in the field.

You will possess:

  • completion or near-completion of a doctoral qualification in a relevant field;
  • registration as a midwife with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);
  • proven track record as an effective teacher, the capacity to conceive, develop and deliver higher education curricula and contribute to relevant areas of teaching;
  • sound and established track record of research activity commensurate with the level of the position;
  • membership and sound connections with relevant professional bodies and community groups; and
  • evidence of participation in academic development activities and the desire to continue to learn and improve as an effective academic.

Desirable

  • experience undertaking academic administrative functions, e.g. course coordination, within a University; and
  • postgraduate qualifications in higher education.
