The Opportunity

Join us in shaping the future of design education! This role focuses on driving the School’s strategic growth in its undergraduate Design portfolio, with a strong emphasis on digital design and creative technology in the era of AI and advanced computing. You'll play a pivotal role in equipping students with the skills to harness cutting-edge design technologies across games, interactive media, and real-time rendering systems, preparing them for innovative creative applications in a rapidly evolving industry.

You will:

  • contribute to learning and teaching practices within the design discipline;
  • supervise honours students and HDR candidates; and 
  • contribute to governance, coordination of and participation in the school capacity-building activities, and activities that contribute to the student experience.

About you:

You are an expert in digital design, game art and programming, animation, and immersive media, with a thorough understanding of the software and hardware that power the contemporary design industry. Passionate about innovation, you actively champion a forward-thinking, industry-driven approach that aligns with emerging trends in the design sector. Your ability to cultivate and leverage industry partnerships drives meaningful advancements in the field. Additionally, you are committed to nurturing future talent, supporting HDR supervisory activities to develop the next generation of experts and practitioners in digital design and creative technology.

You will possess:

  • completion of a doctoral qualification in a relevant digital design or creative technology related field;
  • proficiency in advanced technical skills, such as programming, game engines, advanced computing technologies, creative AI tools, or computational design methodologies;
  • a solid record as an effective educator, with the ability to design, develop, and deliver higher education curricula in digital design, creative technology and game design courses, with a focus on equipping students with creative, technical and theoretical skills for the age of creative AI and emerging technologies;
  • evidence of growing scholarly and creative outputs with high impact, evidenced by strong engagement with industry and/ or publications in high-ranking journals, recognised creative works, or technical contributions in design, digital media, or related fields;
  • expertise in applying digital technologies in design teaching, research or professional practice, including areas such as generative design, computational creativity, immersive media and virtual environments; and
  • evidence of capacity in supervising HDR students, particularly in areas involving the intersection of digital design and emerging technologies.

Desirable

  • research expertise in advanced topics, such as human-computer interaction, augmented and virtual reality and 3D animation.
  • expertise in game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
  • industry certifications in programming, game development, digital design tools, interactive systems, UX/UI design, computational creativity or emerging technologies such as AI and AR/VR.
  • active membership and strong connections with relevant professional bodies, creative communities, and industry networks.
  • leadership experience in course and program coordination in Higher Education.
