The Opportunity

Help support a safe, secure, and welcoming UniSC community. In this role, you will coordinate day-to-day security operations across the University, providing oversight of security activities, supervising a small team of Security Officers, and working closely with external service providers. You will support the management of security services and systems contracts, helping to ensure services are delivered effectively, consistently, and in line with University expectations and sector standards.

You will also contribute to the development of security procedures and training resources, supporting continuous improvement across the security portfolio. Working collaboratively with teams such as Campus Development, Maintenance and Operations, Student Wellbeing and Safer Communities, and Health, Safety and Wellbeing, you will help deliver integrated services that support a safe campus environment. Regular liaison with internal stakeholders, contractors, and emergency services will see you play an important role in maintaining a secure and supportive setting for students, staff, and visitors.

For a tour of our campus facilities, please visit the Locations page on our website.

You will

  • lead and coordinate the University’s physical and technical security operations across all campuses, ensuring effective supervision of the Security Operations Officer and Security Systems Officer;
  • provide tactical and operational oversight of contracted security services, electronic security systems, and access control operations in alignment with university policies, procedures, and compliance obligations; and
  • support the Manager, Security and Emergency Management by managing day-to-day operational matters, developing training programs and operational procedures, and fostering continuous improvement in campus security performance.

About you

You are a proactive security professional with experience leading small teams, coordinating contractors, and supporting effective security operations in a complex environment. You bring sound knowledge of physical and electronic security systems, exercise good judgement in high-pressure situations, and communicate confidently with emergency services and internal stakeholders. With strong analytical and reporting skills, you contribute to clear procedures, effective training, and continuous improvement in service delivery.

You will possess:

  • Completion of a relevant bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training and extensive experience in the coordination of physical and technical security operations;
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including experience supervising staff, coordinating multidisciplinary teams, and managing contractor performance in a complex service environment;
  • Proven expertise in managing physical security operations, including incident response, contract compliance, and stakeholder liaison, ideally within a university or similar setting;
  • Sound knowledge of electronic security systems (e.g., Gallagher, Avigilon), access control, CCTV, and incident management platforms (e.g., Resolver), including experience overseeing their use and maintenance;
  • Experience in developing, implementing, and evaluating operational procedures and training programs to uplift team performance and service delivery;
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement and make informed decisions in dynamic and high-pressure situations;
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including experience liaising with emergency services and providing advice to diverse internal stakeholders; and
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills, including the ability to prepare professional documentation, interpret data, and formulate strategic recommendations.

Desirable:

The ability to meet or currently hold the following additional requirements would be highly regarded:

  • Current Security Licence (Class 2 or equivalent).
  • Certificate III in Security Operations including Crowd Control.
  • Current Advanced First Aid, CPR and AED certification.
