The Opportunity

As Business Development Manager, you will help grow new and existing partnerships that connect industry with the University of the Sunshine Coast’s research and expertise. Working closely with internal teams and external partners, you’ll identify opportunities, explore their feasibility, and build strong, lasting relationships that translate ideas into meaningful collaboration. Through this work, you’ll help expand access to innovative research and contribute to sustainable revenue growth that supports the University’s impact across our communities and industries.

You will

  • build and nurture strong partnerships with Contract Research Organisations, sponsors, and government agencies, leveraging your business insight and clinical trials expertise;
  • work closely with internal teams to assess feasibility and drive successful trial approvals across our site network; and
  • lead business development initiatives that showcase the site network’s expertise, experience, and capabilities, keeping our presence prominent in the industry.

You’re confident in navigating clinical trials and business development, collaborating seamlessly with internal teams and external stakeholders to turn opportunities into real outcomes. You enjoy being organised and proactive, keeping track of opportunities, contracts, and reporting while contributing to strategic planning and continuous improvement. You’re excited to represent UniSC Clinical Trials, sharing our expertise and strengths with industry, sponsors, and partners, and you take pride in mentoring and supporting colleagues to grow alongside you. In short, you’re someone who can connect, deliver, and make a meaningful impact every day.

You will possess:

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Health, Science, Bio-Medicine, or Business, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven business development experience in the life sciences sector, with at least 2 years in a similar role.
  • Hands-on experience managing pre-award communications in early-phase clinical trials is highly valued.
  • Strong knowledge of ICH GCP (Good Clinical Practice) and its application in clinical research.
  • High-level computing skills, including Microsoft Office, SharePoint, and project management tools such as Asana; experience with CRM platforms is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, consultation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to confidently present UniSC Clinical Trials to diverse stakeholders.
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel to trial sites, industry events, and conferences both domestically and internationally.
  • The ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and deliver results within established frameworks and timelines.
