The Opportunity

As our new Venues & Catering Manager, you’ll lead the operations of UniSC’s on-campus food outlets and catering services, while also overseeing the hire and delivery of events across our unique spaces. It’s a hands-on leadership role that blends hospitality, commercial focus and community connection—making sure everything runs smoothly for students, staff and guests alike. You’ll work with your team to streamline operations, enhance the quality of our services, and grow the external use of our venues into a thriving and sustainable business.

You will

  • lead the smooth running of our Venues & Catering operations, with a focus on people, service, planning and performance;
  • keep our food and beverage offering fresh and relevant by tuning into student needs, local trends and new ideas; and
  • build a thriving venue hire and events service that supports campus life, delivers great experiences and grows revenue.

You’re a natural organiser and people leader with a sharp eye for detail and a genuine passion for creating exceptional experiences. You bring fresh ideas, commercial smarts and a steady hand to every event or service you manage, whether it’s refining a food offering, planning a function, or supporting your team to thrive. You know what great customer service looks like, and you're excited by the opportunity to shape the future of venues and catering at UniSC. You will possess:

  • The confidence and experience to lead a large hospitality and events team in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment, with a strong focus on commercial outcomes.
  • A solid understanding of key compliance areas including Workplace Health and Safety, Liquor Licensing and Food Safety, and the ability to hold a Queensland Liquor Approved Manager licence.
  • A sharp eye for logistics and detail, with the organisational skills to ensure every event runs like clockwork.
  • A natural way with people, able to build great working relationships across UniSC, with suppliers, and with customers to deliver consistently excellent experiences.
  • A good grasp of financial practices and the systems that support them, along with experience managing budgets and day-to-day operations.
  • The ability to make smart, confident decisions that prioritise safety and align with UniSC’s values and priorities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the judgement and initiative needed to guide a diverse team, including staff in supervisory roles.
