The Opportunity

As Team Leader, Financial Services, you will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity, efficiency and reliability of UniSC’s core operational finance functions. Reporting to the Associate Director, Financial Operations and Control, this role leads accounts payable, accounts receivable and travel services, supporting the University’s governance obligations and long-term sustainability.

You will lead a specialist team delivering high-quality, customer-focused financial services across the University. With a strong focus on continuous improvement, you will strengthen systems, policies and processes, improve data integrity, and maximise the use of technology to enhance service delivery. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys balancing operational excellence with people leadership in a complex, values-driven environment.

You will

  • lead and develop a high-performing operational finance team delivering accurate, compliant and customer-focused AP, AR and travel services;
  • ensure the integrity of financial operations through strong controls, policy oversight, statutory reporting and general ledger reconciliations;
  • drive continuous improvement by enhancing systems, processes and the use of technology across transactional finance functions; and
  • provide expert advice and training to stakeholders across the University, supporting best practice, compliance and service excellence.

About you

You are a confident and collaborative finance professional with deep expertise in transactional finance operations and a strong grasp of accounting standards and compliance. You bring a calm, solutions-focused approach to complex issues and enjoy leading teams through change and improvement. With strong stakeholder skills, you are comfortable advising across all levels of the organisation and balancing governance with practical outcomes.

You will possess:

  • A degree qualification, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education, in a financial operations environment
  • Extensive experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable and travel functions in a large, complex organisation
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards, financial controls, taxation requirements including GST and FBT, and reporting
  • Proven people leadership capability, including performance management and workflow planning
  • Experience driving process improvement and implementing new systems, policies or practices
  • Advanced capability in financial management systems and MS Office, with strong attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strong commitment to customer service
  • CPA qualification and higher education sector experience are desirable.
