The Opportunity

You’ll provide specialist sleep science expertise within the Let’s Yarn About Sleep (LYAS) program, supporting the co-design, delivery and evaluation of culturally safe sleep health initiatives with First Nations communities. Working across clinical, community and research settings, you’ll contribute to sleep assessment, workforce training, and the translation of evidence into practice, while supporting data quality and research outputs within a multidisciplinary, multi-site team. This role offers a high degree of professional autonomy, collaboration and flexibility.

Please note, this position is based at UniSC’s Moreton Bay campus and involves regular travel to remote communities in Far North Queensland, including overnight stays, in partnership with external program delivery partners.

You will

  • provide specialist expertise in sleep science to support the design, implementation, and evaluation of sleep health initiatives across clinical, community, and research settings; and
  • lead and oversee sleep assessment processes (including screening, home sleep studies, and data interpretation) to ensure high-quality, culturally safe, and evidence-based practice.

About you

You bring relevant experience across health, research and training, with an appreciation of community-based and culturally informed engagement approaches. Highly organised and adaptable, you’re able to plan ahead, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines while working with a high degree of independence. You also demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, concise documentation and build effective working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

You will possess:

  • Completion of a relevant degree in Sleep Health, Public Health, or a related field, with substantial experience in community engagement and outreach work;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in sleep health, research and training methodologies, including community yarning, focus groups, and other culturally informed engagement approaches;
  • Completion of or willingness to deliver Sleep Health education and training (e.g., Sleep Coach training) to lead program delivery and support participants effectively;
  • Proven ability to forward plan, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines with high adaptability and independence;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce clear and succinct documentation; and
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Working with Children Check (Blue Card) in Queensland.
