The Opportunity

As Manager, Privacy and Data Governance, you’ll shape how UniSC protects trust, respects data, and uses information responsibly to support great outcomes for our students, partners and communities. You’ll lead the delivery of a university-wide privacy management improvement plan, strengthening our capability and assuring compliance with state, Commonwealth and international privacy and data protection obligations. This role brings together strategy and practice, designing and delivering fit-for-purpose governance, third-party and data management, consent and data subject rights, breach response, impact assessments, security, training and risk assurance. You’ll provide trusted, expert advice on privacy-by-design and the enterprise use of data governance tools that support secure, well-managed data across its lifecycle. Working closely with stakeholders, you’ll also lead priority initiatives arising from our Privacy Management Review and Cybersecurity Strategy, coordinating resources and guiding the team to deliver clear, meaningful outcomes.

You will

  • lead enterprise privacy and data governance, delivering clear frameworks, policies and systems that enable trusted, responsible use of data;
  • uplift privacy capability and compliance through the delivery of a university-wide privacy management improvement plan;
  • implement modern, automated data governance to strengthen visibility, security, accountability and assurance across the data lifecycle; and
  • embed privacy and data practices across UniSC by partnering with teams to balance strategic priorities, operational needs and risk.

About you

Our ideal candidate is someone who enjoys sitting at the intersection of trust, technology and impact. You’re a thoughtful leader who can set clear direction and bring people with you, translating complex privacy and data requirements into practical, fit-for-purpose solutions that work in the real world. You’re comfortable guiding enterprise-wide programs, partnering with external experts, and rolling up your sleeves when needed to design and deliver meaningful outcomes. With a strong grasp of privacy-by-design and modern data governance, you’re curious about what’s next and confident applying best practice to support innovation, compliance and good decision-making. Above all, you care about doing things well and doing them responsibly, knowing that strong privacy and data foundations help UniSC serve our students, partners and communities with confidence.

You will possess:

  • Deep knowledge of privacy and information security obligations, and the ability to apply them confidently in complex, multi-jurisdictional environments.
  • Proven experience designing practical frameworks, policies and processes that underpin strong privacy and data governance.
  • A strong track record delivering organisation-wide change programs that uplift capability across people, process and technology.
  • Clear, engaging communication skills, with the ability to move comfortably between technical detail and broader business needs.
  • Well-honed leadership, project and organisational skills, with the initiative to navigate complexity and solve problems creatively.
  • A contemporary understanding of privacy, data and cloud-based architectures, security and governance aligned to recognised best practice.
  • A collaborative mindset and commitment to contributing to a positive, inclusive and high-performing team culture.
