The opportunity

The School of Health is seeking an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander academic to make a lasting contribution to nursing education, research and community engagement.

Reporting to the Discipline Lead, Nursing, this role offers the opportunity to shape contemporary nursing education through the integration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, perspectives, experiences and cultural safety across the curriculum. You will join a collaborative academic team committed to delivering outstanding student outcomes while advancing research that benefits communities, industry and the broader health sector.

This role is identified and open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples. Relocation support is available for the successful appointee where required. You will

  • deliver engaging, culturally responsive learning experiences that prepare future nurses for professional practice;
  • design, review and enhance curriculum with a strong focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, perspectives and cultural safety;
  • contribute to impactful research initiatives aligned with School and University priorities;
  • publish scholarly work and build a growing program of research activity and impact;
  • develop and nurture partnerships with health services, community organisations and professional bodies that create opportunities for students and communities;
  • support the recruitment, retention, wellbeing, success and graduation outcomes of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander nursing students;
  • contribute to an inclusive, respectful and culturally capable academic environment; and
  • for a Senior Lecturer, lead curriculum development, mentor colleagues, supervise higher degree research candidates and strengthen research performance across the discipline.

About you

You are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander academic (or emerging academic) who is committed to advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, education and community outcomes. You bring strong teaching capability, an emerging or established research profile, and a collaborative approach that builds meaningful relationships with students, colleagues, industry and community partners.

To be successful you will possess:

  • Registration as a nurse with AHPRA.
  • Enrolment in a doctoral qualification (Level B) or a completed doctoral qualification preferred (Level C) in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in higher education teaching and curriculum development.
  • Research experience with scholarly outputs and the ability to contribute to research initiatives and partnerships.
  • Strong professional and community connections relevant to nursing and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health.
  • A collegial, inclusive and community-focused approach that contributes positively to academic culture and student success.
  • A demonstrated commitment to improving recruitment, retention, wellbeing, success and graduate outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
