The Opportunity

As a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery, you will play a key academic leadership role in shaping the future of contemporary midwifery education. Based at UniSC’s Sunshine Coast campus, you will champion innovative curriculum design, elevate teaching excellence and strengthen work-integrated learning through meaningful partnerships across the maternity and health sectors. You will support the development of confident, capable and compassionate future midwives while contributing to a strong and collaborative academic culture through mentoring, academic leadership and supervision of Higher Degree by Research candidates.

You will also advance a purposeful research agenda that addresses important challenges in midwifery and maternity care, contributing to knowledge and improved outcomes for women, newborns and families. Through your teaching, research and engagement, you will help strengthen the midwifery profession, build research capacity and deliver meaningful impact locally, nationally and globally. You will:

  • lead and inspire teaching excellence through the design and delivery of innovative, contemporary midwifery programs that engage and empower students and colleagues;
  • drive impactful research through high-quality publications, successful grant funding and leadership of research projects that contribute to improved midwifery, maternity and health outcomes;
  • strengthen the University community through academic leadership, governance and capacity-building initiatives across the School and broader institution; and
  • build influential partnerships with maternity services, healthcare providers, industry and community organisations to expand opportunities and enhance student learning experiences.

About you

You are an accomplished academic and an emerging or established leader in midwifery education and research. You bring energy, vision and a strong sense of purpose to your work, with a passion for shaping the next generation of midwives.

You are known for your ability to inspire, whether in the classroom, through your research, or in collaboration with colleagues and health-sector partners. You thrive in a connected, values-driven environment and are motivated by work that delivers meaningful impact for students, the profession and the communities we serve.

You will possess:

  • A doctoral qualification in a relevant field, or equivalent accreditation and standing;
  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a midwife;
  • A strong and demonstrable record of teaching excellence, including curriculum design, student engagement and leadership in higher education;
  • An established research profile with evidence of publications, grant success, supervision of higher degree candidates and real-world impact;
  • Proven leadership capabilities that foster a positive, collaborative and high-performing academic culture;
  • Experience in academic administration, such as program coordination or related functions;
  • Active engagement with professional bodies, maternity services, industry or community networks; and
  • A commitment to continuous professional and academic development.

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications in higher education
  • Recognition for excellence in teaching and/or research.
