Ambition and vision
"I've had great work experiences during my time at a range of universities and workplaces, but UniSC was a bit different," reflects Professor Becker.
"It was pretty clear they had a vision; they had an ambition. It was small enough to be agile, but there were lots of opportunities."
A collaborative purpose
UniSC’s commitment to collaboration was an important drawcard for Professor Becker, and it’s an aspect of the culture which she continues to prioritise among her teams.
"What I think is unique and special about UniSC is the collaboration that happens internally," notes Professor Becker.
"We're small enough that we know who does what across areas and divisions and can reach out to one another and really work towards the things we're trying to achieve, but as a collective."
Enriching the local community
Much like UniSC's campus at Moreton Bay, which has integrated itself within the community, the University as a whole envisions itself as an integral part of the broader landscape.
"We came to the Moreton Bay region as a university to bring locals more opportunities closer to home through the great teaching, and learning and research that we do and to extend our footprint and, and give the same opportunity to the Moreton Bay region," Professor Becker says.
This commitment to community engagement creates opportunities for mutual growthof both UniSC and its communities -– a testament to our dedication to academic and regional advancement.
"This campus, UniSC Moreton Bay, opened at the start of 2020, right before a global pandemic," Professor Becker says.
"And yet, despite the challenging conditions presented by COVID-19, we continued to grow throughout our early years. We now have over 4,000 students studying here."
UniSC’s bold vision for the future has seen the rapid expansion of our Moreton Bay campus, including the construction of three new buildings that will house cutting-edge research laboratories, state-of-the-art facilities, and spaces that foster student interaction and collaboration.
A network of campuses
UniSC's interconnection extends beyond the borders of its individual campuses.
"We are one of five campuses, and we have the opportunity to work as a campus network," explains Professor Becker.
The collaboration among campuses expands our university’s potential impact, as academic and professional staff bring their unique skills and perspectives to different locations, enriching the overall learning and working environments.
When asked about her proudest moments, Professor Becker emphasises the collective journey. "I think my biggest achievement at UniSC has been to bring together a group of amazing people and make an amazing team that is more than just the sum of the parts," she states.
